One Woman’s Journey
Hi everyone,
It's been 4 weeks now since I had an Anaphylaxis to the Pfizer Vaccine and I am still suffering adverse reactions. I have finally found some strength to reach out to you all. To be honest I have been so scared reading about others and it had crossed my mind that maybe I was not going to improve and I was going to die. I wake up every morning and thank my blessings that I am alive.
My mind is keen to get on with the day but my body tells me otherwise. I am physically exhausted as my body feels like it has been beaten and bruised all over. My family and I have suffered trauma from this episode and we want others to know we can all sympathise with their pain. I believe that it’s important for my story and experience to be shared. I am disheartened to read others experiencing these awful reactions and I am extremely saddened to hear others have died from receiving the Vaccine. I wrote to The Mercury Tasmania hoping to receive a response to encourage the medical community to consider the possible deadly repercussions from the Vaccine. There has been NO RESPONSE. I am discouraged to hear health care workers who have been on the frontline since COVID are being shunned because they disagree with PRO VAX but are seeing the consequences first hand from the Vaccine. Where do we go for care, support and to feel safe when our own government are withholding the truth and not telling people their risks.
Why isn't there any HUMANITY?

Day 1 Thursday 3rd June - I had the first Pfizer Vaccine dose @RHH and I was told I needed to wait 30 mins before leaving the hospital because of my allergies. My 18 year old daughter came to the hospital with me. I felt completely fine, in fact the day before my GP commented on how well I looked. The nurse said she had finished; I was surprised I hardly felt the needle. I stood up and walked a few steps and within a couple of minutes of having the vaccine I felt faint so the nurse grabbed my arm. I then felt a warm rush in my chest that went into my throat. A couple of nurses put me on a bed and I was having trouble breathing, it felt like someone was choking me, my chest was tight and I felt like I had a brick on my chest. My chest was pounding. I remember I needed oxygen. Code Blue was called. I must have been in and out of consciousness and then I heard someone say Adrenaline. A nurse apologised that she had to put a blood pressure cuff on my left arm as I have lymphedema. There were a couple of cannulas in my right arm. After I was stable the ICU doctors were asking me questions about my medical history and they stayed with me until I was triaged in ED. I was then taken to the Emergency Medical Unit. I was in a room with another patient and my daughter was by my side. My blood pressure was high, I had a headache and I had pressure and tightness in my chest. I remember talking to my daughter asking her for a drink of water because my mouth felt so dry. I felt my chest getting tighter and tighter and this warm rush through my body and I couldn't breathe. My daughter said the monitoring machine was beeping and my body was shaking, she rang the buzzer but no one came. She said she screamed for help and the nurse called Code Blue. I was given Adrenline again and GTN spray. A doctor came to speak to me and asked me questions about my allergies, I had a rash on my chest and back and the doctor said I was staying for observation. My husband arrived at the hospital and a nurse said he couldn't come in. After a while my daughter said to the nurse that she would go out so my husband could come in. My husband came in and asked what had happened. The patient that was in the cubicle with me explained to my husband what happened and a nurse came over to her curtain and closed it when the patient was talking to my husband. Soon after a doctor who had not looked after me the whole time I was in hospital, in fact I had not seen her before came to my bedside with the same nurse that pulled the curtain across and the doctor said to me she had good news that my blood tests showed that the protein in my blood was not elevated so there was no damage to my heart muscle, I didn't have a heart attack or anaphylaxis and I could go home. I was quite shocked that it was a quick change of plans. I asked questions about what had happened to me and why I had so much pressure in my chest, pain in my neck, my lymphoedema was exacerbated in my left arm and my right thigh was swollen and warm and I generally felt unwell. The doctor said I needed to stop worrying, I was too in-tune with my body and I shouldn't google anything. She said the vaccine was safe and I will need to have the second Pfizer vaccine dose in three weeks. My husband disagreed with the doctor about having the vaccine and expressed his concerns about how I nearly died. He also said he was worried about blood clots and the doctor told him he shouldn't listen to the media. I was discharged from hospital which would have been approximately 4 hours after having the vaccine. My husband and I stayed with friends close to the hospital because we were worried if anything were to happen our home is one hour’s drive away from the hospital.
Day 2 Friday 4th June - I woke up through the night with a piercing headache so I took some Panadol. When I woke in the morning my tongue was tingling and swollen, capillaries had broken out in my face, I had a headache and pain in my neck. My husband took me to my GP at 8:30am that day. I was hypertensive, tachycardia and they could see my tongue was swollen. The GP gave me anti-histamine and GTN spray and called an ambulance. I was triaged to ED Resus and the doctor said I had a severe allergic reaction to the vaccine and not an anaphylactic episode because my blood pressure was high not low. He said it would be reported to Department of Heath and my GP will work with them for a plan. I suddenly was tachycardia and hypertensive and I was short of breath. The doctor and nurses said I was hyperventilating and told me to calm down. After 4 hours I had the same blood test for my heart as the day before and they said it was fine and I was discharged. I stayed close to the hospital for the night.
Day 3 Saturday 5th June - I was extremely tired, dizziness, headaches and tingling tongue. I spent most of the day in bed.
Day 4 Sunday 6th June - I felt much the same as Day 3.
Day 5 Monday 7th June - I felt much the same as Day 3.
Day 6 Tuesday 8th June - I felt much the same as Day 3 and phoned my GP, I was advised to take anti-histamines.
Day 7 Wednesday 9th June - I went to the GP, he explained that I had a two-phase anaphylaxis event and a severe immune allergy response to the vaccine. He said that my discharge notes did not say it was an anaphylaxis event and it hadn't been reported. He said he was reporting it as a two-phase anaphylaxis event. He tried to submit it online whilst I was in the room with him but he was blocked out. I then made a phone consult appointment with him the next day to complete the report.
Day 8 Thursday 10th June - I wasn't feeling too bad in the morning so I went into the city. On the way home I wasn't feeling well with a headache, metallic taste in my mouth, tingling tongue, the right side of my face was flushed and felt puffy, I was having warm rushes through my body, I felt dizzy, my neck was pulsating and I had a pain in the right side of my neck. I stopped at my Chemist as I had another 30 minutes of driving to home. The Pharmacist checked my blood pressure and it was 185/116. The Pharmacist drove me to my GP where I was monitored for an hour until my blood pressure was normal. My GP said the metallic taste was an allergy response from the vaccine and I had most likely pulled a muscle in my neck from all the stress and struggling to breathe when I had the anaphylaxis. My husband drove me home as I didn't feel it was safe to drive. That night I had episodes of feeling like I was going to pass out. My husband said I was non responsive so he called an ambulance. When I got to ED a triage doctor said he remembered me from the other day and what symptoms did I have? I was triaged to ED clinic where I was left to wait over an hour in the waiting room. I had episodes I feeling faint whilst I waited. When I was moved from the waiting room a nurse did a set of observations and I had some routine bloods taken. A doctor came to speak to me and she was short with me and asked what could they do for me and was I feeling anxious? I asked her what she meant by that? The doctor then said what are you mostly worried about? I explained I had not been an anti-vaxxer until now and I wouldn't persuade other people not to have the vaccine but I felt it was important for others to know the risks. I am disappointed with the ED doctors and their ignorance and what I can't tolerate is that the ED Doctor’s are down playing what has happened and are trying to sweep it under the carpet. That you are playing with people’s lives and you don't properly understand it so you are fobbing me off and making excuses. I asked the doctor, Can you compare my reaction to anyone else's or are you choosing to be dismissive about this because that's what you have been told to do. The doctor admitted they don’t understand it, I did have an anaphylactic event (wasn’t recorded on my notes), I was having an immune allergic response but they had no one to compare my case to. They were happy for me to be discharged and ride it out with no discharge plan. I was discharged early hours the next morning so I stayed with a friend close to the hospital.
Day 9 Friday 11th June - I woke up with a tingling tongue and metallic taste in my mouth, I had lost my appetite, taste to food and smell. I continued to have those episodes where I felt like I was going to pass out. I went to bed at 2pm this day and I did not get out of bed until 8am on Sunday morning only to go to the toilet. A friend and Naturopath contacted me to help support me with a care plan.
Day 10 Saturday 12th June - Stayed in bed, sudden onset of high blood pressure and low blood pressure and palpitations. I learnt to lay flat when I had an episode and relax until they passed.
Day 11 Sunday 13th June - Started Activated Charcoal. Less episodes. Rested from lunch time until I went to bed that night. Had some pulsating pain in right arm and right thigh, swollen right thigh and warm to touch.
Day 12 Monday 14th June - Slept in until 10:30am. Symptoms much the same. Rested in bed until the afternoon then I thought I should move around to help with my circulation and cooked a meal for my family, was the first time I had cooked since the vaccine reaction. I finally got some taste back.
Day 13 Tuesday 15th June - Symptoms much the same but the warm rushes and dizziness had eased.
Day 14 Wednesday 16th June - I felt much the same as Day 13.
Day 15 Thursday 17th June - I felt much the same as Day 13.
Day 16 Friday 18th June - I felt much the same as Day 13.
Day 17 Saturday 19th June - I felt very fatigued, blurred vision and tinnitus.
Day 18 Sunday 20th June - I suffered from headaches.
Day 19 Monday 21st June - I felt tired and I had a puffy face. I didn’t feel it was safe to drive myself to an appointment so a friend drove me.
Day 20 Tuesday 22nd June - Still suffering adverse reactions - tingling tongue, dry mouth, thirst, lack of taste and smell, blurred vision, tinnitus and rash.
Day 21 Wednesday 23rd June - Cold sore and symptoms the same as the day before.
Day 22 Thursday 24th June - blurred vision, sensitive to loud noises, sharp pains in shoulders and hips.
Day 23 Friday 25th June - Sore joints and same symptoms as the day before. Seen an optometrist for glasses.
Day 24 Saturday 26th June - Sore joints and sharp pains in neck, shoulders and groin. Very tired, sweating and heart palpitations.
Day 25 Sunday 27th June - Same as the day before.
Day 26 Monday 28th June - Same symptoms but fatigued.
Day 27 Tuesday 29th June - Visited my GP. Can’t tell me what’s going to happen or if I am going to have long term effects.
Day 28 Wednesday 30th June - Feeling very tired, sore joints, pain in hips, neck and shoulders.
Day 29 Thursday 1st July - Same as the day before.
Day 30 Friday 2nd July - Same as the day before, sweating through the night, heart palpitations and extreme thirst.
